This movie is just not that funny. I wanted to liked this film, partly because the director, Jody Hill, has filmed in Concord, N.C., where I used to work as a reporter, and where I interviewed him for his movie, “The Foot Fist Way.” But I just can’t like this film.

It’s a slow meandering study of dark and despicable characters, with no interesting qualities. Now, don’t get me wrong, I like my characters dark and despicable. “Reservoir Dogs” is one of my favorite films, because the characters were ultimately LIKEABLE. Seth Rogen’s new  film “‘Observe and Report”  will premiere at this year’s South By Southwest  (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival.
The festival will be from March 13  to March 21,  in Austin, Texas. Rogen’s film will premiere as the Centerpiece slot on Monday, March 16. The film opens nationwide on April  10.
The Warner Bros. Pictures is written and directed by Jody Hill (“Foot Fist Way“), according to a news release.

“Observe and Report,” is a dark comedy starring Seth Rogen (“Pineapple Express,” “Knocked Up”)  as Ronnie Barnhardt, a deluded, self-important head of mall security who squares off in a turf war against the local cops.

Rogen plays a bi-polar mall security guard called into action to stop a flasher from turning shopper’s paradise into his personal peep show. But when Barnhardt can’t bring the culprit to justice, a surly police detective, is recruited to close the case, according to the Internet Movie Database.

The film also stars Anna Faris, Michael Pena and Ray Liotta, and
was produced by Donald De Line and executive produced by Andrew Haas, Marty Ewing, Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni under the Legendary Pictures banner.

Rogen previously attended the 2007 SXSW Festival with the world
premiere of “Knocked Up,” which went on to gross nearly $150 million in
its domestic release.

WILMINGTON, NC — Danny McBride may have won fans over playing a frumpy stoner in “Pineapple Express” but his latest role will see him as a school teacher of all things.

McBride will star in the HBO series “Eastbound and Down,” playing a burned-out major league ballplayer who returns to his hometown to teach physical education at his old middle school.  The first episode airs on HBO in February.

The show recently wrapped its first season production at EUE Screen Gems studios in Wilmington, N.C.

“Step-Brothers” actor Will Ferrell will act as the show’s executive producer.
