J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” ticket sales were substantially higher than initial estimates, with the movie grossing $79.2 million over the three day period, earning almost an extra $3 million.
Initially, the well-reviewed adventure was expected to bring in $18.3 million on Sunday, but ended up grossing $21 million. Better than expected family attendance was credited with the upsurge.

“Midgets vs Mascots,” a shockumentary shot in a style similar to “Borat” pits five little people against five mascots to battle for $1 million apiece in outrageous competitions. The film finished third in voting in the Heineken Audience Award at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, according to a news release.
When the man, who is simply known as Unknown Hinson, started to talk he spun one Hell of a wild yarn. I wasn't quite sure if I should really believe it.
He talked about being raised by carnival folks, being framed for murder, going to prison and eventually becoming a larger than life musical performer. Plus, he's a voice actor on the popular Adult Swim cartoon, “Squidbillies,” it was all just a bit too much to take in as the man rambled on in his off kilter drawl.

A press pass is a glorious thing. Without one you are just some weirdo with a camera, with one you suddenly have credentials. We met our liason, Elvin Bale, the following day and were made official.
The first friend we made was Greg Connors. He was performing safety inspections, and was gracious enough to let our friend Jamie Reel participate. After learning how to and how not to tie up the emergency lights and exit signs, he gave us an in depth interview.
One of the contributing musicians for Tearing Down the Tent, Pancho Romero Bond, front man for Sirius B., had the visual side of his artistic expression on display. “Portraits of Ukrainian Monkey Trainers” features watercolor paintings of Ukranian circus workers. These works were recently featured at Pisgah Brewing Company Warehouse in Black Mountain, NC.

Beatles fans will have a chance to play like their favorite rock stars in the new video game, “The Beatles: Rock Band.”
Apple Corps, Ltd., Harmonix and MTV Games will release the game on Sept. 9.
The Beatles have been iconic figures in the movie business with their films “Yellow Submarine,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Help,” as well as having their music adapted for the popular film, “Across the Universe.”
Advance IMAX ticket sales for the new “Watchmen’” movie are approaching $2 million with the movie officially opening Friday.
Director Zack Snyder’s film, based on the popular graphic novel, will open in 124 IMAX theaters domestically on March 6, with the film’s wide release. The film will also open in 29 IMAX theaters internationally on the same date. Strong advance ticket sales have already been reported and many IMAX theaters are selling out shows through the opening weekend.
