Check out a trailer for the new Neil Gaiman book, “Instructions,” animated by Charles Vess.
Gaiman is known for the books, “Stardust,” and “Coraline” which were adapted into feature films. Vess was the artist on an illustrated “Stardust” book. The “Instructions” book will be released on April 27.
With the relaunch of ModernFilmZine, we look to change the format of the film orientated Web site. With interviews from celebrities and directors as before, we look to add trailers and short films from MFZ readers.
As filmmakers we want to see work from other filmmakers. MFZ is designed to talk about the big movies, such as “Terminator: Salvation,” and “Star Trek,” but also focus on the side of cinema that often gets overlooked.
We also look to promote the mircobudget movies, since that is what we at MFZ are involved in as filmmakers ourselves.
If you are interested in having your short film or trailer posted on MFZ please e-mail mknox@modernfilmzine.com with a link to the footage as well as contact information and a write up of the project and creative team.
So far we have 14 movies that have committed to participate at the Modern Film Fest. We look to have a total of 3 to 4 venues,w ith Gem Theatre handling ticket sales for all movies, no matter what venue. Here is a rundown of the movies that look to be at Modern Film Fest from Sept. 25 to Sept. 27.
ModernFilmZine is organizing a film festival in Kannapolis, N.C., coordinating the event at the Gem Theatre with the Independent Tribune newspaper as a sponsor.
ModernFilmFest is scheduled for Sept. 25-27, 2009.
Tickets look to cost $4 each, with the Independent Tribune newspaper as a sponsor working with the Cabarrus County Chamber of Commerce. We also look to approach the N.C. Research Campus for help.
We look to collect 12 or more movies to play at the theatre over the three day period.
Scott Mednick, one of the producers of the highly anticipated Spike Jonze film, “Where the Wild Things Are,” is set to bring the famous “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” franchise to the big screen with a new live action movie set to hit theaters in 2011.
The movie, based on characters original created Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman for comic book series, according to a press release by the Mirage Group. The film is set to focus on the origins of the four turtle characters and their rodent master, Splinter.
This will be the fifth film in the turtle franchise, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Finally, a “G.I. Joe” cartoon I can actually watch. And no surprise, since the scripts are brought to us by Warren Ellis, the comic scribe behind “Transmetropolitan” and “Planetary.”
Airing on Adult Swim, the episodes for the new cartoon, “G.I. Joe: Resolute,” run, on average, about five minutes each. So, it’s “Yo Joe,” for the ADHD soul. But damn if this show does not cram a lot of story inside of that time.
When the man, who is simply known as Unknown Hinson, started to talk he spun one Hell of a wild yarn. I wasn't quite sure if I should really believe it.
He talked about being raised by carnival folks, being framed for murder, going to prison and eventually becoming a larger than life musical performer. Plus, he's a voice actor on the popular Adult Swim cartoon, “Squidbillies,” it was all just a bit too much to take in as the man rambled on in his off kilter drawl.
Believe it or not Tommy Chong still remembers the first time he ever smoked a joint, back in 1956 and still remembers the simple beauty of that particular day.
“A friend turned me on to a marijuana cigarette and a Lenny Bruce record,” Chong said in a phone interview. “It changed my life.”
This is by far one of the cheesiest movies I have seen come out so far this year, but I have to admit I didn’t really hate it. In fact I kind of had fun sitting through “Dragonball: Evolution.”
Now, granted a lot of that fun was caused by some of the unintentional humor developed through the story, but still it had me laughing in a couple of spots.
