“Tearing Down the Tent” crew helps win N.C. Press award
STAFF REPORT
The crew for the Changing Elevations, Inc. circus documentary, “Tearing Down the Tent,” were recently a part of a project that earned a second place listing for Best Multimedia Project in the North Carolina Press Association.
Michael Knox, the director of “Tearing Down the Tent,” and Martin Ramsey, the editor on the circus documentary, worked with the Kannapolis, N.C. newspaper, the Independent Tribune, to develop a series of mini documentaries on Pillowtex.
Pillowtex Corporation, headquartered in Kannapolis, N.C., was a leading designer, marketer and producer of home fashion products. On July 30, 2003, the Company closed substantially all of its textile operations.
The Pillowtex property was later sold and demolished to make way for the North Carolina Research Campus.
Michael Knox was a former reporter with the Independent Tribune and worked with the staff to develop three short documentaries that covered the past and present of Pillowtex employees as well as discussing the future of the research campus.
The video was part of a multimedia package that used photo essays and audio interviews to tell the stories of Pillowtex and its people five years after the corporation closed.
The project received second place for the news division that the Independent Tribune was listed in, which included newspapers with a circulation of 15,000 to 35,000.
