“Death Warrior,” a movie that features warriors fighting to the death, will feature five stars from the Mixed Martial Arts championships, from around the world.
Georges St-Pierre, Quinton ‘Rampage Jackson,’ Keith Jardine, Rashad Evans and Hector Echavarria are all featured in the movie, which is currently in production in Toronto, Canada, according to a news release.
The film is scheduled to be distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group and Lions Gate Entertainment toward the end of 2009.
In the film, a gritty fighter is forced into a twisted, underground gambling ring in which he must fight to the death with other fighters in order to save his wife from certain death at the hands of a maniacal crime boss, according to a news release. In a desperate race against time, he is forced into a series of increasingly violent life and death matches while simultaneously piecing together the puzzle which leads him to uncover the identity of the promoter and the ultimate showdown, in which there can only be one Death Warrior.
“Now the toughest fight begins for me… the locations are picked, actors rehearsed, sets are dressed and now it’s battling the elements of making movies inside my personal octagon,” director Bill Corcoran said in a news release. “Every day, like a fighter you come to the set light on your toes, guard up, prepared to strike and wrestle the forces of nature to submission.”
Corcoran has filmed for various television shows, including, “MacGyver,” “Stargate SG-1,” and “Mutant X.” He also directed, “Vipers,” featuring Tara Reid and Corbin Bernsen. The director said he’s worked in film long enough to anticipate the kinds of problems that can come with filming a movie like, “Death Warrior.”
“It could and will come from anywhere,” Corcoran said. “The camera that doesn’t work, the exploding 12 k light, the actor who sleeps in or the sudden hurricane. It’s a fight every day just to try and get each shot. To attain every part of the dream you have held on to make this a great fight movie.”
Fans can follow the film’s production at MovieSet.com which will offer daily production videos. The Web site will offer interviews with the director, producers, cast and crew.
MovieSet.com will also stream live for three days from the “Death Warrior” set on March 16, 17, and 20.
