Joss Whedon’s “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” coming to DVD

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator Joss Whedon has brought his Internet based show, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” to DVD this month through an exclusive deal with Amazon.com. He’ll be using the CreateSpace DVD and CD distribution solution that Amazon.com offers.
The show’s CD soundtrack is currently available, and the DVD was released Dec. 19.
The show features actors Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion. Fillion is best known for working with Whedon on the TV Series “Firefly” and following that with the feature film, based on the show, “Serenity.”
“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” was originally developed as a musical film for Internet distribution. It is a satire about an aspiring villain, portrayed by Harris, who sings, and pines for the girl next door, played by Day. Fillion rounds out the cast playing Captain Hammer, who Dr. Horrible also plots to defeat.
CreateSpace is a product on demand company which produces CDs, books, and DVDs on demand when a customer orders a product. The program allows producers to create content on demand instead of mass producing DVDs that could sit on shelves.
Whedon said “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” was always meant to be part of a new wave of somewhat old-fashioned entertainment.

The exclusive Amazon.com DVD release will include behind-the-scenes features, including “Evil League of Evil” application videos from fans, as well as “Commentary!—The Musical” in which the DVD commentary is sung by Harris, Day, Fillion and the writing team.
Peter Faricy, vice president, music and movies, Amazon.com said he can see Whedon’s DVD having sucess through their company.
